Vanessa Williams elevated the dark glamour trend with a dramatic cape and sheer, paneled details at the world premiere after party of “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” in London on Sunday. The actress and singer stars as Miranda Priestly in the musical adaptation of the 2006 film featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.
For the red carpet, Williams drew sartorial inspiration from the runway. The “Ugly Betty” alum opted for a look courtesy of Pamella Roland’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection, which made its runway debut during New York Fashion Week last September.
The dress featured dramatic, draped fabric with a slight glossy element. An asymmetric neckline added to the theatrical effect, complemented by a long cape down one arm. The bodice also featured exposed boning and sheer paneling below the bustline.
Her high-waisted, flowing skirt added a twist of sensuality with a thigh-high slit. Pamella Roland’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection featured an array of feminine styles, ranging from blush pink minidresses with glittering embellishments to tailored suited looks with sharp lapels and delicate accents.
The selection Williams chose from the collection is evocative of a popular red carpet trend seen throughout 2024. Several high-profile stars, from Nicole Kidman to Demi Moore, Zoe Saldaña and more, styled iterations on the dark glamour trend this year.
Rooted in Victorian-era styles with gothic twists, the dark glamour trend features a black color palette with accents like lace and corsetry. Contemporary iterations include sheer detailing, sensual styles and suited looks with floral accents.
The new West End production of “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” stars Williams as the editor in chief of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly, who takes on new assistant Andy Sachs (Georgie Buckland).
