The auction of Tom Brady‘s treasures has been a major win for Sotheby’s. On Tuesday night, the auction house held its “GOAT Collection” sale, selling 41 items from Brady’s collection for a total of $9 million.
The lots consisted of watches, jerseys, cleats, helmets, gloves and more football items. The watch collection alone brought in $4.6 million, while the sports treasures achieved $4.4 million. According to the auction house, 60 percent of the lots were sold in excess of their high estimates and 800 people from 45 different countries registered to participate. In total, they received 1200 bids placed across the sale.
The auction included items such as a rare yellow Rolex 6241 Daytona Paul Newman “John Player Special” from 1969, which sold for $1.1 million and became the top-selling item of the night. Brady’s Final College Game-Worn Jersey from The University of Michigan was the top-selling item from the sports collection, selling for $792,000.
“It has been truly gratifying to witness the warm reception from collectors and sports fans over the past few months. Regardless of their team allegiance, collectors eagerly gathered to admire these cherished mementos from Tom’s iconic career, honoring and respecting the remarkable accomplishments of The GOAT,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, said via statement.
Before the auction, Brady celebrated the opportunity to share his collection with fans and football enthusiasts. “I’ve been so fortunate to have such an amazing journey in my career, and these watches and collectibles really capture those unforgettable moments and all the hard work behind them. I’m excited to give fans and collectors a chance to own and cherish these special pieces from my journey just like I have. I hope they bring as much joy and inspiration to fans as they did for me!” the former NFL star said.
