Tiffany & Co. Unveils Redesigned Flagship at Yorkdale Shopping Centre


Tiffany & Co. has thrown open the doors to a reimagined Yorkdale Shopping Centre boutique in Toronto that spans over 8,000 square feet. According to the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned American jeweler, the new location reintroduces Tiffany to Canada and showcases the brand’s latest design concept: a destination of elevation and luxury featuring exceptional high jewelry creations and diamond designs.

“We are thrilled to reintroduce Tiffany & Co. to Canada with our newly reimagined Yorkdale flagship store. Uplifting Tiffany’s position as the world’s most exquisite jeweler, the new store showcases our latest design concept with a captivating bespoke diamond-inspired facade by the renowned architecture firm SANAA, notable art, and exceptional craftsmanship,” explained president and chief executive officer Anthony Ledru. “Inspired by our iconic Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City: The Landmark, the Yorkdale store immerses visitors in the wonder of Tiffany.”

The store’s facade showcases a fusion of heritage and inventiveness, featuring 32,000 glass bricks framed in polished aluminum panels. Inspired by the concept of “diamonds in the rough,” the design symbolizes Tiffany’s expertise in transforming raw diamonds into jewelry.

“The facade project focuses on light, transparency and reflection. The glass bricks are laid to generate a luminous, jewel-like effect that refers to the craftsmanship and legacy of Tiffany, following the concept of the diamond in the rough,” explained Kazuko Sejima, cofounder of SANAA.

“Each brick refracts light, giving the facade a dynamic appearance that changes throughout the day and interacts to the flow of people. The layout of the glass bricks further enhances the sense of motion, creating an impression of fluidity and vibrancy,” added Ryue Nishizawa, cofounder of SANAA.

Upon entering the store, visitors discover a custom-made light sculpture designed by architect Hugh Dutton, paying homage to Canada’s national symbol, a maple leaf. It illuminates the brand’s collections, including HardWear by Tiffany, T by Tiffany, Lock by Tiffany, and Knot by Tiffany. Collections are displayed in woven metal case lines with nickel and rose gold legs with mother-of-pearl inlay. Inspired by the historical architecture of Toronto, the store’s interior arches guide visitors throughout the various rooms.

Several artworks by renowned artists are integrated throughout the space, including “Tiffany Incredible” by Damien Hirst, “Repro: Musée d’Orsay (Rochefort’s Escape, after Manet)” by Vik Muniz and Sho Shibuya’s “Sunrise From a Small Window,” a series of watercolor paintings featuring Tiffany Blue accents. The boutique includes a Tiffany high jewelry space and Jean Schlumberger gallery, showcasing the American jeweler’s most unique creations. A custom Apollo chandelier created by Aggio exclusively for Tiffany hangs from a champagne gold-leaf ceiling and encapsulates the celestial inspiration behind some of Schlumberger’s most notable designs.

The Yorkdale Shopping Centre location opened earlier in November and will mark its debut with an event Tuesday night.
