Bang & Olufsen is taking its headphone design to the next level with the unveiling of their new Beoplay H100 headphones, which sit atop a luxurious lineup aimed at offering an industry leading experience. The headphones offer updated engineering and optimized sound that translate to an elevated audio experience. What’s more, the headphones are created with future-proofing in mind for easy upgrades with changing technology.
The $1,549 investment makes these the upper echelon of consumer and audiophile headphones. But what features come with this price tag? Well, a superb, smart design. B&O puts repairability front-and-center with a detachable headband and ear cushions that can be replaced at any time down the line – the two components that wear out the most.
The Beoplay H100 headphones look beautiful, too, with their circular ear cups, luxurious finish, and premium build materials, including a scratch-resistant hardened glass touch surface on each side of the headphones complemented by lambskin leather earpad cushions. They also come in three colors: Infinite Black, Hourglass Sand, and Sunset Apricot.
The captivating design doesn’t necessarily mean much if the headphones don’t sound great too. And while we haven’t judged their actual audio quality through testing them, we can offer reassurance. They’re built by a company that has made exceptional audio products and solutions for many years. The headphones offer 40mm custom-made titanium drivers, and are capable of playing hi-res audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz. They make use of new audio processing tech built by Bang & Olufsen called EarSense, which the company says tailors the sound profile to the wearer’s fit in real-time. To be clear, other companies have had tech like this for a while, but it’s nice to see headphones this high-end offer it also.
As you would expect in 2024, the headphones also support Dolby Atmos with head tracking for a more immersive experience. You can use this tech when listening to music, but I find that it’s more helpful when watching movies, for example. The headphones have 10 microphones dotted around them, both to help pick up your voice on a phone call and for the noise cancellation tech. Other features include ear detection and a new quick listen mode that allows you to cover the earcup with a hand to quickly enter transparency mode, which can be helpful in a quick conversation. The headphones offer 34 hours of battery life on a single charge, which is also impressive. Bang & Olufsen says these headphones offer its most advanced noise cancellation and transparency modes yet.
