Lucy Liu Embraces Gothic Romanticism in Sheer Zuhair Murad Dress for ‘Presence’ Premiere

Liu’s tulle dress featured a high ruffled neckline and sheer lace paneling along the bodice, channeling Gothic romanticism. The gown’s full skirt, crafted from delicate layers of tulle, completed the dramatic silhouette.

Zuhair Murad’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection was filled with dark academia-inspired looks. “Lace dresses were topped with crisp white collars for a look that would not be out of place on Wednesday Addams. There were also Gothic references, relayed in patterns that recalled the sacred details of 16th-century cathedrals rendered in intricate lace patterns on blazers, or punching up a white poplin shirt dress or tunic,” WWD previously reported.

The actress accessorized her look with long, dangling diamond earrings and statement rings. She carried a black clutch purse that seamlessly complemented the ensemble.

Liu’s beauty look featured a pink lip, a touch of blush and mascara. Her hair was styled into a sleek updo with a ponytail.

Liu’s choice of sheer lace for her gown reflects the ongoing popularity of the sheer trend on red carpets. This style has been embraced by both designers and celebrities, appearing in spring 2025 ready-to-wear collections by labels such as Tory Burch and Tom Ford. Additionally, the look has been a recurring feature at major events, from the CMA Awards in November 2024 to the Golden Globes earlier this month.

In “Presence,” Liu portrays the leading role of Rebecca Payne. The thriller follows a blending suspense storyline with psychological drama.  The premiere brought together the film’s cast, including Julia Fox, Callina Liang and Eddy Maday, as they celebrated the movie’s upcoming theatrical debut. The film is set to be released in theaters nationwide on Jan. 24.
