Dezeen Showroom: Ukrainian architect and industrial designer Daria Zinovatnaya has collaborated with Spanish brand Gan on the chromatic Loko rug collection.
Taking the form of an irregularly shaped collage, the Loko rug was devised by Zinovatnaya as a pure distillation of shapes and colour.
“Irregular rugs have the potential to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary environments,” explained Zinovatnaya, who is known for her experimental and eccentric designs.
The collection includes two colour variants, both handmade by Gan’s artisans in India. Loko Natural is made from hand-knotted, undyed wool, with subtle variations in tone and texture reflecting natural differences in the fibres.
“Working with natural fibres offers the opportunity to connect directly with nature, embrace sustainable practices and create products that are as beautiful as they are environmentally friendly,” said Zinovatnaya.
Loko Colour has a far more vibrant palette and is hand-tufted.
“I try to explore new combinations and evoke different emotions or atmospheres through the choice of colours,” said Zinovatnaya. “Experimenting with colour through Loko Colour allows me to create both visually appealing and dynamic compositions.”
