Dezeen Showroom: designer Karim Rashid aimed to create a seating design that would bring people together with Bound, his collection for German brand Kusch + Co.
The Bound seating collection features reduced shapes “bound” with an optional contrast-colour edge that creates a graphic look.
Rashid intended to combine reductive design with a powerful visual impact in the collection, which includes an armchair, sofa and table.
The collection is also meant to embody six key concepts: beauty, comfort, balance, functionality, quality and relations – with the last factor describing the ability of furniture to enable people to feel present in the moment with the people around them.
“I envision Bound as a means of bringing people together,” said Rashid. “Beautiful, comfortable furniture serves as a catalyst or platform for gatherings.”
The Bound collection was developed to be sustainable through longevity, with a timeless design, durability and replaceable components that should enable it to have a long life.
