Angela Basset brought regal style to the Disney Legends award ceremony during the D23 convention in Anaheim, Calif., on Sunday. The actress and honorary Oscar recipient was honored by Disney alongside Miley Cyrus, Jamie Lee Curtis and John Williams, among others.
For the event, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Oscar-nominated star wore a strapless Barbiecore-pink matching set with a queenly spin. The actress’ matching set featured wide-leg, high-waisted pants as well as a flowing train on the strapless top.
As the actress walked up the stairs to accept her honor, the train of her look flowed behind her, giving the actress a completely regal appearance she carried with confidence. She paired the ensemble with shining, reflective platform heels.
Ryan Coogler, the director of 2018’s “Black Panther” and 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” shared remarks about Bassett during the onstage presentation. “She [has] always given these incredible larger-than-life performances that somehow still feel incredibly real and tangent. What she does is truly a gift,” Coogler said.
Members of the Dora Milaje from the Marvel film were also onstage. A video tribute to Bassett, featuring commentary from Coogler and Bassett’s husband of more than 25 years, Courtney B. Vance, also played.
Given that Bassett portrayed Queen Ramonda in both “Black Panther” films, her elegant and vibrant attire was ideal for the D23 convention.
The D23 Disney Legends ceremony honored individuals who’ve left a lasting impact on Disney’s legacy. “The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor our company bestows,” Disney chief executive officer Bob Iger said.
“It’s presented as a celebration of talent, a recognition of achievement, and, above all, a sincere expression of our deep gratitude. Disney Legends are bound by the special place they have earned in our history for their tremendous contributions in service of entertaining and delighting fans around the globe.”
The Disney Legends Awards Ceremony will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ on Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
