Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Opts for Subdued Elegance in Blazer and Matching Dress, Talks ‘Precious Opportunity’ in Opening Remarks at 2024 Democratic National Convention

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the stage at the United Center in Chicago on Monday during the first night of the Democratic National Convention. The U.S. representative of New York’s 14th congressional district offered her support of Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz ahead of the forthcoming November presidential election.

For the evening, Ocasio-Cortez wore a style in stark contrast to her previous attire in the lead-up to the DNC. She favored subdued elegance, wearing a monochrome dark dress with a hemline at the knee and a coordinated blazer with sharp shoulders.

Monochrome styles have been spotted on the red carpet throughout 2024, with several celebrities showcasing variations on the trend from white-hot dressing to playful pastels.

Along with her coordinated attire, Ocasio-Cortez, also known by the acronym moniker AOC, wore a pair of nude heels and delicate gold jewelry. AOC also added a pop of color with her signature red lip.

During preparations for night one of the 2024 DNC, Ocasio-Cortez was seen wearing a purple lilac dress on the floor of United Center on Sunday. The dress featured fabric draping and pleated details on one of the shoulders.

“I am here tonight because America has before us a rare and precious opportunity. In Kamala Harris, we have a chance to elect a president who is for the middle class, because she is from the middle class,” Ocasio-Cortez said in her remarks.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention is taking place in Chicago and concludes on Thursday. Delegates from all 50 states and U.S. territories are gathering to formally nominate Harris as the Democratic candidate for president and Walz as the candidate for the office of vice president.
