Newly emerged interdisciplinary design brand AÈDE Studios is the name you want to keep on your design radar. Founded by Fedor Velyaminov, Ana Mira, and Alix Declercq, the Paris-based studio’s name is a nod to the classical Greek storytellers whose work preserved the culture’s heritage through design. Similarly, the ethos of AÈDE Studios is to tell stories through objects, beginning with its inaugural collection. This series of five objects – a floor lamp, a table lamp, a dining table, a side table, and a tapestry – draws inspiration from Russian Art Deco. AÈDE Studios translates art, themes, and motifs from medieval Russian and European influences into a contemporary aesthetic, culminating in the Racines Collection.
The Tougarine Floor Lamp pays homage to a mythological creature found in ancient Slavic folklore known for his many heads. Like the mythical creature, Tougarine is just as mysterious and intriguing with its dual heads and rippling body. The lamp casts a soft, adjustable glow into its surrounding environment, evoking an otherworldly ambience.
The smaller counterpart is a Tougarine Table Lamp of the same name. While it only has one light source, its design expression remains the same, adding a mysterious peculiarity while fulfilling its function of illuminating a room with warmth and character.
Khram is an immaculate dining table with an uncommon trapezoidal shape inspired by medieval Russian architecture, exemplifying the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the artisans during that time. Similarly, Khram’s perfect symmetry and elegant curves highlight the skilled talents of its makers. The dining table’s expansive length fosters communal dining, nostalgic of traditional medieval feasts, bringing a piece of medieval history into the future in a new context.
The Chatior Side Table also draws from Russian architecture but in a smaller form. The historical tent-roofed structures that towered over the land are miniaturized into a side table. Its many angles are precisely crafted by artisans, paying tribute to the medieval architects from that era.
Finally, Firebird, a vibrant tapestry named after a Russian folklore, encapsulates an array of Russian culture. The story of the firebird, which inspired a ballet by composer Igor Stravinsky, is reflected in the tapestry’s bright colors, ornamental art deco motifs, and patterns found in Eastern Orthodox clothing, resulting in a captivating piece of art.
